The course definitely helped me get started in quant finance, not only with advanced Python templates and explained code but also, more importantly, with some concepts and professional approaches to trading that I hadn’t explored before. The information provided was too much to absorb in just a few weeks. I’m sure I’ll still find more jewels after dedicating more time to reviewing and analysing the classes and practising with the notebooks. - How has the course helped you get started with Python for quant finance? I had some experience with quants a while ago, at the time I used Matlab. My work experience subsequently was mostly around what I capture "slow finance" (IB, PE, VC). I am leaning more to what I call "fast finance" now (where time series data influences decision-making: i.e. trading, commodities) and imagined there must be a better way to learn and apply this. Python for quant finance provides the thinking, tools and practice to not only get started, but to ramp up very quickly. - Why has this course unlocked outcomes for you when others have failed? Many other materials and courses focus on code and tricks. This course provides practical steps to create value quickly. Jason has a term called Minimum Viable Python: i.e. get the most basic code to solve the problem firstly, then iterate and improve later. That way the distance from idea to practice is very short which accelerates learning and keeps everyone engaged. Jason provides a short list of robust libraries for the tasks at hand. He removes the guessing game, and supports you to get value quickly. - What was one unexpected benefit of taking the course? When you generally read about quants, the bias leans towards complicated algos etc. Jason focuses so much on the thinking part. Think about what you are trying to do, build the "algo" firstly in your mind, by paper etc, then and only then should you type out a line of code. He also focuses so much on mastering the fundamentals (Numpy, Pandas etc) as it makes everything else easier. Jason has been at this for a very long time, has done this is the real world, and he shares practical experience that is useful for everyone. Additionally, the cohort is extremely diverse (in age, experience, location) and it is very interactive as we also learn from and support each other. There is also a ton of practical and curated resources for both during and after the program. We also had accomplished speakers from industry invited to speak during the program and share their knowledge and experience. If you are looking to not just get started, but also thrive in the world of python for quant finance, I highly recommend this course. You get competent, you get confident, you create results quickly, and you save time. Barely two weeks into the course, I was already applying my learnings at work.

My trading journey began in 2016. Subsequently, I embarked on the algo trading path in 2019. So, I had a decent amount of Python prior to entering the cohort. During my journey, I've come across some really good courses and a lot of bad ones. So, if I am able to learn one thing from a course that I did not know previously, I consider that a success. With respect to Jason's course, although several of the topics aren't of any interest to me presently, I was able to take away one crucial gem from one of the course's Jupyter notebooks. Ironically enough, it was a notebook that had a link that pointed to one of his free articles. Go figure. Additionally, the Interactive Brokers (IB) API live session was pretty good. And I say this as someone who struggled for over two years to understand the framework. His IB API session was a good complement to my existing working knowledge of the framework. I won't be joining any further cohorts, because I believe I got what I needed from the course. All in all, Jason's course is really good for its nominal asking price and the information it offers. If you are contemplating enrolling in the course, keep in mind that no course is a "one stop shop." That means that after 30 days, you probably won't be able to deploy a strategy and start raking in cash. However, it can serve as a solid step along your journey. The journey continues...

My journey diverged from the cohort's norm due to my background as a developer with limited trading exposure. What came naturally to others required intentional contemplation for me to grasp. While this could have led to frustration, the supportive community was always at hand to answer my questions, alleviating any sense of stagnation. At the course's outset, I aimed to automate every trading aspect. Yet, I lacked the requisite knowledge to construct programming logic capable of executing proficient trades. I was unfamiliar with trading strategies essential for integrating machine learning principles. Additionally, assessing the effectiveness of my trading strategies eluded me. Presently, I continue my pursuit of crafting a successful strategy. However, I have successfully automated data collection and analysis. Both strategy testing and market implementation are now automated. This comprehensive understanding of my path ahead has proven transformative. I also credit the course for introducing me to the concept of building in public. This seemingly straightforward concept has offered me motivation and accountability, propelling me forward not only as a trader but also as an aspiring startup founder.

I am an actuary, and most of my financial analysis prior to taking this course was primarily using Excel. The course was instrumental in helping get started on my Python journey. I had taken several tutorials before taking this course, it was hard to get projects started because of a lack of framework. This course provided a way for students to come up with tangible problems to solve, as well as a methodology to solve these problems. The course begins from the very basics, and then proceeded at a brisk pace to cover many useful tools and techniques to solve problems in finance. The course unlocked positive outcomes due to the enthusiastic support of the instructor through the course's platform, and detailed guidance of the written materials and code samples. In the weekly video lectures, the instructor goes though in detail each's week's materials and objectives. There is a also a helpful community of students to learn from. An unexpected benefit of taking the course is the enormous amount of additional resources provided by the instructor in terms of references to books and other materials for further study. Another unexpected benefit was having guest speakers such as the founders of OpenBB and ThetaData. They provided additional insight of very difficult problems that can be solved using Python, as well as unlocking a new world of possibilities learning financial analysis through the use of these respective platforms.

Five weeks ago I didn't know what quant finance was and I only knew some basics of Python. It took me as an retail options trader some time (intermediate level) to take the decision to subscribe to and pay for a course given by a presenter (Jason) I had never heard of in a domain I knew nothing about. Since then, a new world has opened to me which will certainly will boost my options trading and that will allow me to reach the Big Goal I set in the beginning of the course. I have not regretted starting this course one second and consider exercising the option to do this as one of the best investment decisions I have taken this year. In addition to access to a high-level community with people from all over the world, and Jason patiently and clearly explaining what actually for most of us are complex subjects in an incredibly short time and in a very structured way, I have received a huge amount of links, tutorials, presentations and other valuable content one can use in becoming a (better) quant. I managed to link to the Interactive Brokers API which for me is already a major win. Next challenges are OpenBB and Zipline. In parallel I read the Python crash course (as recommended) and did Corey Schafer's Python Pandas Tutorial on YouTube. As a noob to algorithmic trading I will need to go back to much of the stuff we got and will certainly continue following the community in Podia and Discord, possible if I have progressed through the stuff I didn't have time to do this month, join another cohort later this year as soon as I master most of the quant stack, and as soon as they are available follow the deep dives Jason intends to present. The course initially appeared to be just an introduction to Python and it's ecosystem for algorithmic trading, which caused some reluctance at the beginning for me when considering to register. I decided to give a try, which I can say was a great decision on my part. As soon as on-boarding week started you quickly realize the content is way more than just basic Python learning experience. Several unique features of this course can be summarized as: encouragement of Jason to put overall thinking process into a framework for identifying an "achievable" goal worth while pursuing and then working towards developing a minimum viable product rather than the most ideal or optimal one. His willingness to share his experiences (what was later referred as "traders war stories") during the interactive sessions rather than hurrying to cover the content was also very valuable. The office hours with him to help with the setup problems or asking questions on topics of interest were very helpful. The guest speakers especially OpenBB developer introducing their platform and having the opportunity to ask question was great experience. Due to a natural disaster happened in my home country in the middle of the course, I couldn't spend the time that I initially planned with Deep Dive notebooks because of the priority shift in trying to help the rescue and relief efforts there remotely as much as possible. Hence, I tried to attend the live sessions at least. However, the session recordings, Jupyter notebooks will be there when I can allocate the time but more importantly there is a community established with like-minded participants, which is great to have for future interactions and collaborations.
