Erica is an amazing trainer. She has been so much help and so supportive as we work with our 3 year old rescue Border Collie–hound mix with her noise anxiety and reactive issues. Maggie has made great progress with the reactivity. Although it is still a journey with the noise anxiety, we can see improvement in this area, also.

This review is very long overdue. We cannot recommend Erica and her services with The Kind Canine enough. We brought Eddy home in March of 2020, an unintended quarantine puppy. We thought it was a wonderful accident to be able to be home with him during this stressful time and be able to train him so easily. The part we didn't realize we were missing was critical socialization of what our life is really like. Our usual busy household with kids coming and going was suddenly quiet and mellow. So when visitors returned- doorbells, noisy kids- Eddy was reactive. "Who are these invaders? I must protect everyone!" In our home, he didn't trust unpredictable kids which is a problem since kids are just that, unpredictable and equally reactive to a barking dog. Erica came in and was almost instantly Eddy's new best friend. She helped us- the humans- with understanding what Eddy needed to feel at ease and identify our behaviors that were triggering. The training was not about forcing unrealistic expectations on Eddy, making him the "perfect "dog, and more about how we humans can create repeatable processes for Eddy to rely on and trust. As a result, Eddy did become an even sweeter dog we all love so much. When we are consistent, so is he. Thanks Erica!

“Finn transformed from a frightened former street dog to a confident companion!” We adopted Finn, a very fearful and anxious street dog, from a local rescue. Despite his good qualities, Finn had many trust issues. He wouldn’t let you touch him and putting a leash on him was impossible in the early weeks. Erica played a critical role in Finn’s development into a confident, well-behaved companion. Erica knows how dogs respond and understands the reasons for their behaviors. Her expertise and extensive training experience encouraged Finn’s confidence and development. Her dog training tips were priceless! Within weeks, Finn mastered many basic skills and continued to learn more. One of the most rewarding aspects of The Kind Canine experience was the enhanced bond between Finn and us. Through our bi-weekly training sessions and practice time, Finn grew to truly trust us (and strangers!). Finn quickly gained the confidence he needed and now he is living his best life! Also, I would be remiss if I did not mention that Finn absolutely adores Erica! She’s the best!

Erica has great insight into the behavior of dogs and is able to pinpoint exactly what is going to work. She is hands on and sends thorough followup so that we know exactly what to do to continue to reinforce the training. It has been a pleasure to work with her and our dog LOVES her. He is so excited every time he sees her. Highly recommend!

A great hands-on, positive training experience for our growing puppy and us as first time puppy parents. Written treatment plans after each session helped us follow through. Erica provided experienced perspective on puppy development, as well as our puppy's particular needs. We're grateful for her work with us and our pup has changed so much!

Erica is a trainer and educator extraordinaire! I'm not inexperienced with dogs, but I was flummoxed about how to deal with my border collie's rude behavior when meeting new people. Erica correctly identified his shrieking and posturing as fear, and taught us how to work as a team to make everyone's life better. Her love for dogs and her upbeat approach are priceless. If I could give her 10 stars, I would.

My dog Percy is the sweetest and happiest dog ever BUT…….When he is on a leash and sees another dog, he longes and barks as if he is going to tear the other dog to pieces. Erica has taught us why Percy reacts this way and how to calmly and happily show Percy there is another way to react and then get the ultimate treat, which for him is to play and lick the other dog, not hurt it. Erica made sure my children and husband were also included in the training sessions, because to have long term success, we all need to be on the same page to be better humans for Percy. Thank you Erica for all you have done to train us to help Percy be the happiest dog he can be! 🐕❤️

Working with Erica / The Kind Canine has exceeded my expectations in SO many ways. I came to Erica after having a bad experience with an Authoritarian/Caesar Milan style trainer who left my already very-timid-5yo-dog with more fear and anxiety than she had before. Erica, who uses a positive reinforcement style approach, set clear expectations from the start, letting me know which behaviors she could address well, and which she would likely refer to me to others for; which I loved about her! My dog had a lot of different behaviors I wanted to work on: excessive barking, reactivity to wheeled objects, crate training and overall building of confidence. I wanted have better communication with my dog and eventually be able to travel with her and take her to breweries. The only basic command Penny knew was "sit", so we had a lot to work on. Erica taught her how to follow a food-lure first, and we immediately started seeing her confidence build from there. The treatment plans that Erica sends weekly, are a lovely mix of infographics & verbal instructions (You can tell she was a teacher in a previous life!). The truth is that dog training isn't linear. We have made tremendous strides in a lot of areas, but we have to continue to work with Penny, consistenly, to de-sensitize her from skateboards and bikes. We have good days and not-as-good- days, but we have seen continuous improvement. Erica crate trained Penny in 10 minutes (LITERALLY 10 MINUTES!), which has made traveling with her so much less stressful for all. We will definitely be booking at least a few more sessions with Erica, as the continued support is necessary for us, and tbh, we're just not ready to let her go yet. Also, my dog is obsessed with her. I'm pretty obsessed with her too. If you're in Bend, and wanting to build a better relationship with your dog, the first step is to reach out to The Kind Canine.

Erica has been a vital part of my dog's continued reconditioning training. Fiona was rescued from a breeding-bait dog scenario where she had spent her entire first couple years in a cage being abused in the hot sun of Houston. Fiona has gone from a fearful, aggressive and very timid dog to a very, very happy girl with the help of Erica's training and encouragement. I am so grateful for her methods of kind and compassionate training and Fiona continues to grow in leaps and bounds under Erica's care!

We cannot offer up enough gratitude and respect to Erica, and to her husband Eric as well, for their expertise, gentle, humane methods, and obvious investment they have in seeing both dogs who want so much to develop good manners and their owners, succeed. Our pittie had a horrible start in life, almost killed in Tijuana, MX, with the daily terrors of a street dog. Once rescued and having undergone plastic surgery, he had extreme leash and “critter” reactivity and we nicknamed him the “bullet train!” He was nearly impossible to walk and great care was needed to make sure doors were secured. In just 4 mo. Erica taught us numerous skills, maneuvers, distractions and games for our boy that make walking truly a pleasure and we are able to recognize triggers to his hyper- alertness and help him to disengage safely without incident. It’s still a work in progress and Erica has offered to be our support even now, after our session has ended. She is the best!

Absolutely the best trainer! We couldn't have asked for anyone better to work with our dog Arnie. He is a timid dog but he warmed up to Erica immediately. She was so kind and gentle with him he really understood what we needed. She trained us to help him find his way and understand what it was we were asking of him. Marvelous experience could not have turned out better. Our dog is even more fantastic now after working with Erica. He has gotten over many of his fears and now we know how to help him.

Erica is amazing! We found her by chance when we were visiting Sunriver with our two dogs. We planned to ski several days while there, but could not leave the pups alone in the rental house. From our initial outreach through all communication, Erica was responsive and professional…and super sweet. We hired her again for another visit in June so we could play on nearby lakes and biking trails. The dogs were so happy to see her when she arrived for each day she was with them. She gave us helpful tips for each pup as well. Erica clearly loves dogs and knows her stuff.

Erica is the best trainer we’ve ever had! I came to her because my dog was starting to be reactive to other dogs and she helped us through sessions and with detailed notes for work to do at home. She is so organized! It’s so helpful to have her summary and links to look back on rather than trying to recall the session. I love that she is up on all the latest science, and is always learning. Most importantly she is a force free trainer, no shock collars or choking!

I am so happy to have found Erica Pashia when looking for help for our dog, Benny. She has been an incredible help to us, and he ADORES her! Benny came up here from Mexico where he lived as a street dog, never having been restrained by a leash and always able to run right up to any animal he wanted to greet. As a result, he has a hard time containing his excitement around other animals now when he is on leash. Sounds like no big deal, but boy was it stressful and embarrassing for me to take him on walks. He would make such a scene! With Erica’s support though, we have learned how to enjoy our walks now! She helped us understand his behavior and what he was really expressing, and through fun and bonding training exercises, Benny has learned that it’s more fun to engage with me than it is to bother other dogs! Erica is incredibly patient and thorough. She is highly skilled and knowledgeable in dog behavior, and has a knack for explaining the science and methods behind it without overwhelming me and so that I can actually understand it (she gives great analogies! Totally makes things “click” for me). After each session she provides a detailed overview of how Benny did that day, what we learned, and what we need to work on…. I often refer back to it, as it is fun to see the progress we have made! I can not recommend Erica enough, she is a gem and has made life with our dog so much more enjoyable!!

Erica is am amazing trainer! The care and concern she has for figuring out what each dog needs just oozes from her. Her built-in empathy for our Evie was wonderful on its own, but her commitment to applying scientific research about how dogs think and live makes our ongoing experience with her as Evie's trainer the perfect combination. We've worked with Erica through two different training packages (focusing on different skills) and as our dog walker. Erica has built a beautiful, safe, and trusting relationship with our sweet girl that makes my heart happy. Additionally, her guidance has helped Evie get more and more comfortable with strangers and other dogs and has helped reduce her overall anxiety (particularly with food). Erica has also helped my husband and I understand Evie's overall needs when it comes to mental and physical stimulation. She is ready to go into problem-solving mode with you whenever you feel like you've hit a snag. Her helpful resources, ideas, feedback, and experience create an unmatched combination. If you're looking for a fantastic trainer focused on meeting your dog where he/she is with positive reinforcement techniques, pick Erica. She will not disappoint!

Erica is so wonderful to work with! Her genuine love and enthusiasm for dogs shines through instantly, and is infectious. I leave each training session feeling encouraged and hopeful, and I feel like I understand my dog better each time. My partner and I rescued a male cattle dog about 3 months ago, and after a few reactive incidents with him (he's insecure, and doesn't de-escalate well - but he is so perfect in so many ways), we contacted a different trainer that we didn't know at the time was about fear/aggression-based training. That is so not my style, and I was deflated after that incident. So, finding Erica after that was a game changer. Our dog LOVES her, and she has helped arm us with amazing positive-reinforcement and force free techniques for working with him. She is truly passionate about what she does, and her empathy and compassion, for dogs and humans alike, come through in your first phone call with her. Her background in education helps making learning all around easy, and I feel like she sets us up, and our dog up, for success in such a beautiful and easy way. Her follow up is excellent and her training guides are such a valuable resource. We look forward to our sessions with her from a few days before and they are a highlight in the week, for sure. We've made huge strides with our sweet pup based on the tools/techniques she has shared with us. Thank you, Erica!

This has been a remarkable experience. Erica has a type of "Zen" with animals. Ours learned so much from every visit. Being in home sessions we and our puppy were very relaxed. The follow up written analysis of the training session was so helpful. Being able to go back and review was very beneficial. Erica has made raising a puppy a joy instead of a frustration. Ginger and I want to thank her for the wonderful work she does. HIGHLY recommend her.
