I read 3 general blogging books before reading Nurse's Guide to Blogging. Brittney and Kati do a great job of explaining lots of very complex information in digestible bites that are easy to refer back to. I bought this in Kindle form, but really wish I had paid the additional $10 for the paperback. It would have made things a bit easier as I go through setting up my website or writing your post. Additionally, they remind you of your responsibilities as a nurse whether you are at work or on the internet. We are held to a higher standard and we have to remember that even when blogging.

I learned to blog in the early 2000's from experts, but much has evolved since then, and no longer being connected to the experts I learned from originally, some of the great tips and tricks in this Guide have been lost to me. Brittney and Kati have connected the dots for me. I sincerely recommend this book to anyone who is already blogging and especially to those wishing to start blogging! It's easy to read and understand and will be a great reference tool as I update my sites. Thanks!!!!

Today, I am using it as my road map while I am going through some business development and making a timeline to incorporate the practical tips Brittney & Kati so generously share. A MUST have for all bloggers

I did more than read this book, I studied it, I used it as a workbook. This book isn't just the technical side, it is a guide to creating your space online and being successful as a blogger. As true nurses would, Kati and Brittney thought of more than just the steps you need to take to become a nurse blogger. They challenge you to get your WHY established and how to weave that into your process of blogging. They hold your hand through confusing topics and show you their very own personal tips and tricks. The book even covers social media, branding, content creation, finances...This is a MUST have for any blogger, not just nurse bloggers.

A must have for Nurses who want to start a blog!

I've been a blogger for several years now, and I'm also a nurse! I found the Nurse's Guide to Blogging to be a book that filled in the gaps for me. I've taken many courses on blogging. I really felt value from this book because it was written by nurses (2 different nurses with slightly different approaches) and as I nurse I could relate to the importance of getting my message out. The book was well organized. Even though I have blogged for several years, I was able to add new ideas to how I create content and organize my thoughts. I realize what I have to say is important and it's time to really get serious as a nurse blogger. I have a new site I'm creating. I'm laser focused now, and am looking forward to implementing ideas found within the covers of the book. I also purchased the Kindle version which I can have with me for reference at any time.

Don't go to the hospital until you have read this book!

What Kati Kleber has done for nurses with her masterful book "Becoming Nursey" she now does for patients - and people who might become patients - with "Admit One." I have worked in and for hospitals for more than 40 years and this is the best overview I have seen informing a patient of what he or she can expect upon being admitted to a hospital. This is also a great resource for people who work in a hospital to learn more about how the rest of the organization works.

A practical guide

This is a concise, readable account of things you need to know before becoming a patient in a hospital. The author, an experience nurse, discusses hospital routines, hospital workers, and common patient and family questions in a way that is balanced, thoughtful and engaging. The book can be read in a little over an hour and contains a great deal of useful information. I would recommend this book to medical students and residents to remind them of the different roles of all the members of the health care team. I wish I had access to something like this early in my medical career. Of course, it is designed as a practical guide for patients and families and it should be mandatory reading for any layperson unfamiliar with hospital routine prior to crossing a hospital threshold, including visitors. I would also recommend it to hospital administrators and hospital board members so that they can fully appreciate the teamwork that is involved in direct patient care--roles completely independent of spreadsheets, public relations and certificates of need.

Kati provides a beautiful, candid account of her own journey to 'becoming nursey' through a very engaging, entertaining writing style. Her honesty about any fumbles or mistakes she may have made along the way will set any new nurse or nursing student's mind at ease and the way she shares her experience in handling these situations and bouncing back even stronger afterward, is tremendously inspiring. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone considering nursing as a profession, nursing students, and new or experienced nurses alike.

A worthy successor to Notes on Nursing by Florence Nightingale

This is an extraordinary book and I agree with other reviewers who suggest that it should be required reading for anyone working in, or planning to work in, the healthcare professions. The author has brilliantly blended her own stories, practical and immediately useful advice for successfully completing nursing school and surviving the first few years of practice, and a big dollop of humor and wisdom. And it is written with the witty brilliance of a professional author - this is a book that Bill Bryson would have been proud to have written. This is a book that Florence Nightingale would have recognized as having been a worthy successor to her own "Notes on Nursing."If you know someone who is in nursing school, planning to go to nursing school, or in the first few years of practice you can do them a huge favor by giving them a copy of this wonderful book. If you are on the faculty or administration of a nursing school, college for allied health professions, or graduate program in healthcare or nursing administration you can do your students a big favor by making this book a part of the curriculum.

As a new grad ICU RN, this was a comforting read.I was a CNA for many years before becoming an ICU RN.... the way she described that dynamic hit it head on. It made me appreciate the book more. And I highly suggest this as a read for any new RN in the work force.

Reading this has given me the confidence I need to walk onto the floor knowing that it's okay to be new, it's okay to be a little nervous, and it's okay that I don't know absolutely everything. I'm even more excited to get started after reading some of Kati's stories. Thank you for opening your heart to us!

Every nurse has a collection of funny, interesting

2 years into nursing and I laughed a lot reading this. I even bought two copies to give to my friends who newly became licensed. It helps the new nurse accept that nursing is not all flowers and candy, but learning to find humor and learning lessons in all the craziness we experience makes it all worth while! Every nurse has a collection of funny, interesting, and heartfelt stories to share. This is a nice collection of them.

Couldn't stop reading it!!!!

Wow!!! This scared me and had me in tears all at the same time. I will be graduating nursing school in a few weeks ad I am deathly afraid. No clinical instructor to watch over me or quiz me on my meds before I give them. This book was recommended to my class after we had finished taking an exhausting 135 question final. The last thing I wanted to do was read anything. But the next morning I purchased the book online and couldn't put my iPad down. This book is wonderful.

As a nursing student, the book I've been looking for

I'm a nursing student and when I found this book I was so excited!! Kati tells you not only what it's like to be a nurse, but how to be one. How to organize your day, how to talk to patients/doctors, how to prioritize and more! I've been looking for someone to break it down for me just like she does in the book. Highly recommend it!! I've told all my classmates about it. I will be reading it several more times before I graduate and get a job.

Great Introduction to Nursing

This gives a great indication of situations that one could encounter as a nurse or should I say that one will encounter. A really good look at what to expect as a newbie nurse. I️ found the author to be transparent in both her religion and her emotional experiences. It took me two evenings to read, I️ have an early bedtime though. It was a very pleasant read.

Sincere, practical, excellent!

I am new grad RN/BSN and I loved this book! I thought it was sincere, grounded and had a lot of practical, well thought-out advice. I also thought it was very well written. One of the reviewers commented on stylistic deficiencies but I actually liked the conversational tone of the book. I found it conversational but professional, in other words, very nursey:) Also, as an older second career nursing grad, I was very impressed by the personal and professional maturity of this young nurse and author.I will definitely be looking for more from Kati.

You need this book!

This author is just... Amazing!! I wish I would've had this book when I started nursing school or before I started taking interviews fro my first job. There are so many good stories in the book and so much advice! I read this book after starting my first job as a nurse on a critic care floor and I could relate to a lot of what the author writes about. Very quick and easy read with lots of emotion and I would definitely recommend to anyone in the nursing field

Must read for every nurse or anyone being cared for by one!

If you are a nurse or ever thought of becoming one, get this book. I have been in the profession for over 35 years and purchased this book for my daughter in law who is just starting her nursing career. I started reading it before wrapping it and couldn't put it down. Kati Klleber truly captures what it is like in the day to day world of health care for nurses. She makes you remember why you both love and loathe this profession every single day when we must give of ourselves so much. But I would never have it any other way.

Great Read for Nursing Students

This book is invaluable for someone going through a nursing program or just starting as a recent grad.. Since getting yelled at by doctors, cleaning up horrible messes, making mistakes, feeling overwhelmed, etc are inevitable, it gives great comfort in reading the anecdotes in this book, so that you know that you are not alone and you will get through it.The book is well-written and very easy to read. At times funny, at times heart-wrenching, this book has stories that are just like life actually is for RN's in a hospital setting.

As a nursing student, I am inspired by Kati Kleber. I follow her on social media and her podcast, and I love her enthusiasm for teaching new nurses. This book was funny and informative, very down to earth. I'm going to start re-reading it! Even my husband who doesn't like to read picked it up one day and read a few chapters. He kept saying "have you read this part yet? What about this part?" Had to tell him to be quiet til I finished the whole book!

This is a great book for nurses in any stage of their careers

This is a great book for nurses in any stage of their careers! Right now I am in a four year nursing program (during my third year) and I read it over winter break. It was such a quick read and Kati answered many of the questions I had about being a new nurse and becoming nursey. I know that I will read this book again once I graduate and probably then again before I begin my first job as an RN. I recommend it to any fellow nursing student I know, and even nurses who ask me for reading suggestions.

PERFECT for new graduates

I recently graduated from nursing school and was trying to find a down to earth book that talked about the struggles of being a new nurse and their overcomings. This book was PERFECT. It seriously made me laugh out loud, cry real tears and gave me confidence. Perfect book for a new graduate. The author was a med surg nurse and then become an ICU nurse, so the stories focus mostly on her journey through those two specialties.

I only wish I had a book like this 5 years ago when I was starting out

A must read for all new grads!! I have the same background as the author…graduated in 2010 with BSN, started on step-down, then eventually ended up in critical care. It's uncanny how similar our experiences were from graduation to the present. I only wish I had a book like this 5 years ago when I was starting out! To realize that I wasn't alone in my feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and plain being overwhelmed would have been SO reassuring and made that transition time easier. I frequently have students in their final year of nursing school assigned to me, and I plan on telling every single one of them to get this book!!!

Positive, Honest, and Fun

This book was such a breath of fresh air because it is so honest in its explanation of how challenging nursing is, and how much nursing is an all encompassing profession. Still, nurses LOVE nursing-no matter how hard it is, and this book highlighted ways to stay in love with our career, and offered practical advice about how to navigate some of the toughest situations that come up in nursing, and find a way to not allow the darker aspects of nursing to ruin our love for the work we do. I thought this writer was excellent in sharing ways to focus on the good, and manage the negatives in a smart, effective way.

She also has some great personal advice that she imparts for RN students

I am an RN and my daughter will be graduating soon from RN school. She was feeling the stress and self-doubts that I remember from when I was in school. This book is written by and RN that is close to my daughter's age. Kati Kleber, RN absolutely hit it out of the park with this book. She has the first hand knowledge, the experience, tender and humorous stories to keep anyone entertained, educated and enthralled with the job we do. She also has some great personal advice that she imparts for RN students, for the NCLEX exam, interviewees and resume writers but also practical advice for working as an RN. This was a great read! I enjoyed it and now so is my daughter. Thank you Katie for showing that we are humans after all.

It gives you great insight as to being a new nurse

Any new nurse or nurse student needs to read this book. It gives you great insight as to being a new nurse. Our 4th teacher recommended this book to us as we were finishing our 3rd level to get us thinking about the difference between nursing school and the real world nursing and how frightening it can be as a new nurse, after you graduated. I am in 4th level now and I can't tell you how many times she wants us to refer back to this book to learn how to approach different things that come up in the clinical setting. I have truly enjoyed each chapter. The first 1 or 2 chapters might start off a little slow but my advice to you is to keep reading because it is great.

A comfort that I know I will return to

Absolutely love Nurse Kleber! As a new grad in Neuro ICU this book is invaluable. Honestly, I wish it were a required read before starting clinical rotations in nursing school. Kati provides advice for not just clinicals but med-surg, and critical care environments. I was in a 13 month ABSN program so many of my fears and stressors were intensified by an unforgiving schedule/environment and finding the Nurse Eye Roll blog helped me through some of the moments I had myself talked out of nursing forever. Most importantly, Kati helped to normalize some fears that I kept telling myself were immature or unrealistic. The read was quick, colloquial and kind. It appeared Kati took considerable effort to not come across as an expert or a sage but just another nurse trying to help newbies. A huge comfort.

Future nurses: you won't regret your purchase!!

This book is so inspiring! I am currently taking prerequisite courses for nursing school and have been keeping up with all of Kati's posts and of course this book as inspiration! I decided on nursing school because I knew I was interested in life science and learning about illnesses and the human body, etc, but I also wanted a job where every day I am faced with new challenges. Kati helps explain not only basic things about nursing/nursing school, but also how to be a great nurse, both emotionally and with knowledge from nursing school. I wish every aspired nursing student would read this so that they can see that this job is not only about taking care of people, but also about making a difference. This is the sole reason I fell in love with this field. Without Kati's blog/book, I wouldn't have really considered nursing mainly because you hear the horror stories about nursing school (haha) but it is motivating and she really proves that if you put your mind to anything and everything you want to be/do, then you can be that way with hard work and passion. A must read for anyone thinking about nursing!

A Must Read for Nurses and Non-Nurses

I could never be a nurse. It's just too hard. Not only do they have to physically take care of patients (and their body fluids and waste products) but emotionally support said patients, their families, their doctors, and supervise an army of certified nursing aids. Did I mention that they also must diagnose, manage, and monitor disease in real time?It was under these auspices that I came across Becoming Nursey by Katie Kleber while I was working to promote my own book. I checked her out on twitter (@NurseEyeRoll) and was intrigued enough to jump on Amazon and buy the book. I was very glad I did. This is a must read for new nursing graduates, students, and anyone who dreams of entering this sacred profession. The practical information contained in this book is priceless. Everything from surviving nursing school, to passing board exams, to organizing your time as a floor nurse is covered. The text is a clear, organized, and easy to follow set of instructions for tackling day to day challenges. How I wish I had this type of manual for medical school and residency! What I think is almost more valuable, however, to not only nurses but also doctors and the community as a whole, is the emotional candor of the book. Often humorous, sometimes heart-breaking, Kati paints in broad brush strokes the humanity of the profession in general. We laugh at the descriptions of the physical pitfalls when she describes tackling the not so delicate parts of her job, and we cry when she tells of the emotional hazards we all face while caring for our fellow human beings.Buy it.It's a great read!
