Yesterday for the first time I ditched a sporting activity like #sailing or #surfing on a Sunday to attend a very interesting event called GrowthX Demo Day. The event had three competing teams that made it to the finals of the internal competition and had the challenge to create a growth strategy for a real existing startup that could be applied by the company in the coming days. Each of the three teams presented a well-prepared and focused plan encompassing the problem that their company was addressing. Understanding the types of customers based on their needs, improving the customer journey with the company, and last but not least creating value for the customer while considering the long-term benefit for the company were addressed. (pretty much everything that is required for creating a planned growth strategy) Each team had a combination of members from different backgrounds and skillsets that assisted in developing the presentation and ideas that could be the game-changer for the companies they were presenting. My observations or learning from the event were 1- Understand and consider every aspect of the problem you are solving from the customer's point of view and the customer's take on your solution. for example I did not understand the problem being resolved by Koo as google keyboard with different languages is available for writing and publishing the desired content. Additionally, most social media platforms are available in different Indian languages. 2- Focus on creating plans utilizing data that will enhance value for both the customer and own company. Ex: using data to analyse customer behavior and creating different ICPs. 3- Always consider incorporating advanced technology to improve the solution. for example, creating a referral program using technology thereby simplifying processes. Coming to the teams:- Slice- The data collection and understanding of the product was really good but they could have had a little more clarity on their marketing strategy for different customer segments. Small case- They were on point with their strategy in terms of the competition, the use case of their product, and the type of marketing required for each market segment. The presentation was excellent and to the point. Koo- It was the first time I heard about this company and to be honest I failed to understand the problem altogether. In my view, understanding the problem was the real challenge for the team to work. The event changed my perspective on understanding the factors for scaling a company and building an efficient and realistic structure. The main thing that I learned from the event was that you need to keep it simple and focused on one single goal to get the best growth possible. I am not an author, reporter, poet, logger, content creator, blogger, storyteller, historian, memoirist, bohemian... and write very less in English.   But a splendid event that happened in my learning path has inspired me to write on LinkedIn after so many days!!!   Yes, I have attended GrowthX's Demo Day at 8:30 AM Dublin time. My friend ACMA Partha has been posting for a couple of months about the learnings in GrowthX program, excited and applied for the program. Got an invitation for the D-Day (Yes, it was just like the D-Day in World War-II), three teams fighting to conquer the show with their growth solutions for the three start-ups slice, smallcase and Koo India    Starting with the presentations of SliceX team, followed by smallcase and Koo-Vengers, below are my learnings!!!     1) Customer segmentation 2) Customer Acquisition methods 3) Importance of Customer retention 4) Understanding the problem statement 5) Importance of brand partnerships to scale & Many more   Insights from the panelists made it it a great show all together. Vedanarayanan Vedantham your inputs to the teams were incredible.   Coming to the presentations, Shashank from SliceX team has opened the show in a decent manner, Soumitra Choubey from Smallcase team was like a voice over artist narrating the story to the audience and their solution was amazing to the fintech start-up which made them the winners of the show. Not but not the least, Varun Francis has given an stunning presentation while giving their solution to Koo's problem statement, stood second.   This was fantastic show which made me sit for almost 3.5 hours (including a break of 6mins) , Eagerly waiting to join GrowthX to learn more!!! Sunday made so much fun with GrowthX demo day. There was so much to learn with fantastic approach to every growth problems along with solutions given by the teams. Here's what I have learned: Curiosity: - Competition Or Collaboration, A what?, smallcase's presentation made me so curious about this. Why smallcase is not a competitors to big fintech and how can they leverage themselves by synergising together was amazing. This reminded me of the Nash equilibrium - when you fight, both are the losers but if you collaborate, both are the winners - Credit Card with UPI feature: How? Why? When? Feasible? Slice just hooked me with this feature. Will this be approved by govt? I am curious to know. - Beautiful Charts and Presentation by Koo Team as it were screenshot from product itself. It was so fascinating in the presentation itself Perspective: - Building Anti-Customer portfolio - We always think more customers are better but it is also important what kind of customers we want to bring to the system - feedback given by panelist to slice team nailed it. - Found few good Ads, We can make it better, Because smallcase better hai. Never knew adding 10 secs to already existing ads can change the perspective so much and can be so use-full without hurting the competition Structure: -Repairing the leaks: Do not only focus on increasing the TAM and SAM but repair the leaks of your system, most of the of job is already done. This also made me learn TAM,SAM ans SOM : ) -Lower the number of Steps, higher the chances of conversion, Slice's effort to reduction of documentation was amazing -Think Legal, Many of the feature need legal approval need to check if possible or not before building -Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Referral, Revenue, This model is so great to learn by putting different things hats -Do not only create great campaigns by also time them properly smallcase nailed it Special Thanks to Jatin Nagpal(Team Slice) for introducing me to demo day. About the famed #GrowthXDemoDay To turn a Sunday afternoon into high octane productive session filled with presenting growth strategies, vibing with like-minded hustlers & industry leaders alike - is no mean feat. The energy was at its peak throughout for the 1000+ attendees for a runtime of 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒖 𝑨𝒓𝒋𝒖𝒏'𝒔 𝑷𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒑𝒂. (Now that's a perfect Sunday) 𝘔𝘺 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴: + 𝐀𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬:  Storytelling is an underrated art. I say this particularly for the teams that get to present towards the end. When the chances of attention spans declining can be high, but it is sheer strength of storytelling that can keep you engaged. Got to witness that LIVE in the form of Jayesh Bhatia (Impeccable connect with the audience) who did a great presentation on Ditto Insurance. + 𝐀 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲: I'm not a big fan of frameworks - they are good from a reference standpoint. But I like to chase clarity inside my mind (Somewhere most frameworks are derivatives of the first principles thinking). What I liked the most in all of the 3 Demos was the clarity when it comes to re-iterating the problem statement. That's critical & would like to maintain that practice (from a Bayes Theorem lens) + 𝐀 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: What I know about growth is just 1% (I like to be kind to myself). The ground reality of the messy middles is extremely unglamorous (yet the most significant) as opposed to the Brag-worthy titles people hold. I'm more in love with the continuous process of building now. Who doesn't want to have a perfect weekend. But if you focus on definition of PERFECT, it often varies form person to person. Now there are people for whom perfect weekend is translating free time to acquiring a new skill or probably brush up existing one. #productiveday So elaborating to the #TAM of this post, folks, there is a community of people like you. :) I happen to have spent few of my Sundays following #growthXDemoDay and observing people going gaga solving for #growth and coming up with solutions hypothesis, showing crazy level of research with shit load of creativity. I think such auspicious activity can only happen on a #growthXDemoDay We say a #productmanager solves a gazillion number of problems but if you look at macro level, if you are anybody.. a #founder, #marketeer, #CXO or a #PM, the only problem you are looking to solve is #growth, how to grow, get hold of existing situation and achieve better results. I was baffled to see these astonishing minds from GrowthX #community to put in such work, detailing a plausible solution for growth, a real world problem, by putting in effort of just 3 weeks in this capstone project, which everyone, day in and day out looks out to achieve in their daily work hours. What an insightful way to spend Sunday! 😎 Attended the #GrowthXDemoDay today, and I was hooked to it for three hours straight. The session was a gold mine of insights and strategies related to product growth, marketing, customer retention, acquisition, and monetization. Gained a new perspective on growth, which as rightly mentioned, can get applied on a Monday morning! 📈  Highly inspired by the depth, clarity, vision, and structure of the pitch decks. Some key takeaways which I got curious about and wish to apply at work:  ✨Different ways to structure an ideal customer profile (ICP). There's no one proven method to determine your ICP. It depends on what you're selling and who you're selling.  ✨Better looking landing pages and improvements in CTA are crucial to market 10x better.  ✨It's vital to create the first bit of magic for the target audience. Either through product innovation, personalization techniques, or creative promotional strategies.   I was introduced to GrowthX by Sanath Kumar, CEO Smitch, and it couldn't have been any better. The growth strategies presented by each team - RazorpayX, Meesho, Simpl, CoinDCX (unofficial showcase) were excellent. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 💹 - 𝟭) User onboarding is a crucial component. Your customer will either adore your product or stop using it at this point. Best user onboarding dramatically raises retention rates and even lowers CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost). 𝟮) Recognize the needs and pain points of your customers, and try to address them without delay. 𝟯) Consider TAM (total addressable market), SAM (service available market), SOM (serviceable obtainable market) carefully by applying all the filters possible (mainly in a country like India). This helps in properly assessing the product market fit with realistic numbers. 𝟰) Educate customers about your product. This improves the customer engagement. 𝟱) Conviction is important. You cannot do everything. So you must prioritize things based on your capability and current market requirements. 𝟲) Do not underestimate referral programs. Referrals can accelerate your customer acquisition process. So, incentivise as much as you can. ----------------- The Meesho team created a growth strategy to increase from the existing 500M orders to 1B+ orders. The RazorpayX team built a plan to grow current account holders (from 5k to 50k). Simpl team made a simple strategy to boost MAUs from 5M to 15M. Additionally, CoinCDX developed a strategy to go from 5M to 15M active users. From product knowledge and market sizing to user acquisition, onboarding, retention, and monetization, every pitch was a solid growth model. Watching RRR in the theatre on a Sunday afternoon is good but attending GrowthX demo day Better hai. Attending a 3 hour-long presentation on the probable growth path of the 3 fast-growing startups may seem the most boring thing to do on a Sunday afternoon but believe me, once you're in, these 3 hours will dissolve within 15 minutes. Although the products, strategies, processes, and people were different for all the 3 presentations, I could see a pattern in each of them. Here's what - 👉 Storytelling - Each of the presenters was a storyteller. Be it Shashank Gupta from team slice or Soumitra Choubey from team smallcase or Varun Francis from team Koo India. They knew the trick to hold the attention of the audience. 👉 User Persona - Defining your user persona is one of the most important but toughest tasks for an early-stage company and man, cannot tell how smoothly while staying relevant each team defined the user persona by taking real-life references like Rancho, Jeetu Bhaiya, making an instant connect with the audience. 👉 Customer Research - Designing a growth path with your learnings and intelligence is one thing, works rarely but designing a growth path by talking to stakeholders (Founders, Employees, and Users/Customers) is something that always yields results and this is something I love most about GrowthX, they make their teams work on the ground. I've myself seen 100+ posts in the last 3-4 months GrowthX folks searching for users of a certain brand to talk about for their user research. 👉 Growth Path backed with the detailed roadmap - Solutions for every problem are available in access but very few of them are viable. What made me happier as an audience is that each of the 3 teams presented a viable and simplified solution with zero usage of jargon and complex excel sheets, for their respective startup to act on immediately. Be it Acquiring, Onboarding, or Retaining, each step was backed with a detailed & defined set of activities. 👉 Summary - May seem insignificant to many but believe me it's as crucial as all other points in this post. While sitting through a presentation for 30 minutes and getting bombarded with multiple interesting concepts each equally important, chances of leaking a few crucial points are greater and that's where a summary acts as a savior and keeps you aligned with all the steps taken to help product achieve pre-defined goals. To be honest, this post is just a glimpse of the magic show GrowthX folks organized, and to get a real experience, you'll have to attend it. Imagine the most exhilarating movie that you have ever seen. Now, 10X it! That's GrowthX Demo Day for you. It is an experience that will make you want to go out and change the world on a sunny Sunday afternoon.   Now, before I dive into my takeaways from what I experienced yesterday, I would like to thank the GrowthX team for letting me peek into the incredible work happening at GrowthX.   The people at Pixar have a simple philosophy, "Tell a story". Stories have an intrinsic power to take you on a journey. And that's what yesterday's Demo Day was about; the teams took us on a journey from insight to impact.   Team Slice demonstrated the value (8.5X growth) a simplified user onboarding journey could create, among other things like scaling up the referral program, introducing relevant product integrations etc.   My most significant insight from them was about structure. Their growth equation as a function of acquisitions, onboarding, and engagement was perfect. They had a simple strategy - fix each element, and you will get your increase in users. Voila! Moreover, optimizing the onboarding journey idea made logical sense because of this structure. And because they could define everything from the start, it was such a breezy pitch.   It is safe to say that team Smallcase hit the nail on the head yesterday. But, the real question is why? I could not get this out of my head until I took a step back and realized that the answer was right there. They didn't just propose solutions; they offered solutions for their users. Each slide was user-centric. Their 2.5X growth model seemed pragmatic because their proposed growth strategy seemed practical from Jeetu's and Suchi's perspectives.   And that's my biggest takeaway from them, perspectives. It doesn't matter how good the idea is; it is useless if it doesn't make sense for the user. By understanding user perspectives, the team understood the relevance of festivals like Diwali & New Year's eve and their influence on the consumers' investing behaviour. Once they figured that out, they grasped the most critical element: time. Their redefined model that kick-started building in March and the ability to present ideas from users' POV were the hidden jewels.   I consider myself to be a curious person. But once I saw team Koo's total addressable market size, it was an eye-opening and somewhat humbling experience. Koo's 20-25 minutes were just a rollercoaster of these emotions. Hence, my most critical takeaway from them was in terms of curiosity. They helped me expand my definition of the term itself. The sheer radicality of some of their ideas was fantastic. For instance, I never thought they would talk about monetization, but they did; it made sense even though it was brief. And I think that's how ideas become a reality. Yesterday was my first ever Growthx Demoday. I signed up out of curiosity, with no clue to what to expect but in the end, I did learn a lot. Sometimes, looking at problems from different perspective is important, simple solutions can solve mightier problems, and it could be right in front of our eyes. My Takeaways: If your presentation is a killer, its half war won (loved all 3 presentations, how storytelling and not too many numbers wala presentations make's your audience love you even more!) Setting realistic and achievable goals. How focusing on every aspect of consumer journey is the key, how well we know our "Rocket Singh/ Suchi" could eventually make or break a product. Approach towards a problem and how refining and redefining pressure points, across all processes would help in giving a fresh take towards a business. If I have to sum up my Demoday experience then probably, I would get a slice card, invest in smallcase and promote them on Koo India. I have always been focused on Growth, whether it's personal, professional or even atomic. I discovered GrowthX lately and was very keen on knowing about the ripples they are creating. Skipped on Sunday snoozes with GrowthX demo day and I have just about zero regrets. My very first #GrowthXdemoday got me 3 very different presentations from team Slice, smallcase and Koo India. What did they all have in common? Engagement and storytelling that was so gripping that it's bound to get attention of 1300+ people LIVE. Growth strategies around slice presented by Shashank Gupta, smallcase presented by Soumitra Choubey and Koo India presented by Varun Francis all 3 presentations were outstanding. Insightful feedback given by all the panelists like: Vedanarayanan Vedantham, Shivangi Srivastava, Gunjan Pradhan & Adarssh Mnpuria making me take multiple pages of notes during today's session, it was super enlightening. Today during the seminar Abhishek Patil said "Prior to GrowthX there wasn't any other community on a similar scale and energy around Product Marketing and Growth in India, talking about. Indian case studies and use-cases." and I absolutely second that, I wish I was aware of the group earlier but never too late to learn and explore. An absolutely wonderful initiative by Abhishek & Udayan and the entire GrowthX Team Kriti Gupta, Manish Karjol Bhavya Narula which has worked out beautiful enriching all our minds.

Did you spend your Sunday watching IPL or a movie? Well, I spent 3 hours of my Sunday watching balls being hit out of the park and stories being spun!👇🏻 I attended my first GrowthX Demo day yesterday, and I regret not attending it earlier. The three hours were a masterclass not only on Growth strategies but teamwork, storytelling, and time management. My key takeaways- 👉Understanding and clarity of the target persona is most important in defining a growth strategy. You need to meet your personas at the right moment with the right message.🤩 👉While acquisition is important, onboarding and retention bets are equally important too. Seamless and transparent onboarding goes a long way. 👉Building meaningful partnerships in the ecosystem and content sharing loops in the product can dramatically reduce spending on inorganic channels.🤑 👉All the three teams, #teamSlice #teamSmallcase #teamKoo came up with a year-long strategy in just about 3 weeks!🤯 The detailing and number crunching behind the scenes was immense but they demonstrated a masterclass in presentation. It's been 6 years since I completed my MBA from one of the good B-Schools in India. In that timespan, I have donned many hats in various roles in India and abroad, and have seen tons of pitches filled with ideas, strategies and growth plans for businesses. I was confident I knew enough to make a dent to every other topic for any kind of business problem. Until, I attended GrowthX Demo Day yesterday. Now, I am, in equal parts, awe-struck, scared and excited. 14 teams, 5 shortlists, 3 pitches and 1 winner. Honestly put, I had goosebumps seeing the the width of ideas and depth of thought to each of those ideas. You name it and they had it, and then some. Customer profiles, acquisition channels, onboarding flows, product wireframes, creative animations, brand codes, financial models, content loops, campaign timelines and what not. It wasn't whims or fancy. All the pitches were stitched together with some solid, airtight research. The folks had spoken with prospective and existing customers, read reviews, interacted company personnel and even their founders and investors. Those were some practical, achievable solutions they presented. It's remarkable, to say the least, that how could 8-10 folks, meeting each other for the first time, could do all of that in 3 weeks, while having full-time jobs. Folks who presented smallcase, Koo India and slice, you simply bowled me over with the clarity of thought and practicality of your solutions. I have to admit that I am rather scared knowing the level of play out there. It was unlike anything I had even seen before. The good part is that I have gotten into the upcoming cohort of GrowthX and I can't keep calm. Super excited and pumped to take this difficult journey, which I am sure will lead to beautiful destinations. I strongly recommend GrowthX to anyone and everyone! Go and have a look at what they do. Yesterday for the first time I ditched a sporting activity like #sailing or #surfing on a Sunday to attend a very interesting event called GrowthX Demo Day. The event had three competing teams that made it to the finals of the internal competition and had the challenge to create a growth strategy for a real existing startup that could be applied by the company in the coming days. Each of the three teams presented a well-prepared and focused plan encompassing the problem that their company was addressing. Understanding the types of customers based on their needs, improving the customer journey with the company, and last but not least creating value for the customer while considering the long-term benefit for the company were addressed. (pretty much everything that is required for creating a planned growth strategy) Each team had a combination of members from different backgrounds and skillsets that assisted in developing the presentation and ideas that could be the game-changer for the companies they were presenting. My observations or learning from the event were 1- Understand and consider every aspect of the problem you are solving from the customer's point of view and the customer's take on your solution. for example I did not understand the problem being resolved by Koo as google keyboard with different languages is available for writing and publishing the desired content. Additionally, most social media platforms are available in different Indian languages. 2- Focus on creating plans utilizing data that will enhance value for both the customer and own company. Ex: using data to analyse customer behavior and creating different ICPs. 3- Always consider incorporating advanced technology to improve the solution. for example, creating a referral program using technology thereby simplifying processes. Coming to the teams:- Slice- The data collection and understanding of the product was really good but they could have had a little more clarity on their marketing strategy for different customer segments. Small case- They were on point with their strategy in terms of the competition, the use case of their product, and the type of marketing required for each market segment. The presentation was excellent and to the point. Koo- It was the first time I heard about this company and to be honest I failed to understand the problem altogether. In my view, understanding the problem was the real challenge for the team to work. The event changed my perspective on understanding the factors for scaling a company and building an efficient and realistic structure. The main thing that I learned from the event was that you need to keep it simple and focused on one single goal to get the best growth possible. My friend ACMA Partha has been posting for a couple of months about the learnings in GrowthX program, excited and applied for the program. Got an invitation for the D-Day (Yes, it was just like the D-Day in World War-II), three teams fighting to conquer the show with their growth solutions for the three start-ups slice, smallcase and Koo India    Starting with the presentations of SliceX team, followed by smallcase and Koo-Vengers, below are my learnings!!!     1) Customer segmentation 2) Customer Acquisition methods 3) Importance of Customer retention 4) Understanding the problem statement 5) Importance of brand partnerships to scale & Many more   Insights from the panelists made it it a great show all together. Vedanarayanan Vedantham your inputs to the teams were incredible.   Coming to the presentations, Shashank from SliceX team has opened the show in a decent manner, Soumitra Choubey from Smallcase team was like a voice over artist narrating the story to the audience and their solution was amazing to the fintech start-up which made them the winners of the show. Not but not the least, Varun Francis has given an stunning presentation while giving their solution to Koo's problem statement, stood second.   This was fantastic show which made me sit for almost 3.5 hours (including a break of 6mins) , Eagerly waiting to join GrowthX to learn more!!! Sunday made so much fun with GrowthX demo day. There was so much to learn with fantastic approach to every growth problems along with solutions given by the teams. Here's what I have learned: Curiosity: - Competition Or Collaboration, A what?, smallcase's presentation made me so curious about this. Why smallcase is not a competitors to big fintech and how can they leverage themselves by synergising together was amazing. This reminded me of the Nash equilibrium - when you fight, both are the losers but if you collaborate, both are the winners - Credit Card with UPI feature: How? Why? When? Feasible? Slice just hooked me with this feature. Will this be approved by govt? I am curious to know. - Beautiful Charts and Presentation by Koo Team as it were screenshot from product itself. It was so fascinating in the presentation itself Perspective: - Building Anti-Customer portfolio - We always think more customers are better but it is also important what kind of customers we want to bring to the system - feedback given by panelist to slice team nailed it. - Found few good Ads, We can make it better, Because smallcase better hai. Never knew adding 10 secs to already existing ads can change the perspective so much and can be so use-full without hurting the competition Structure: -Repairing the leaks: Do not only focus on increasing the TAM and SAM but repair the leaks of your system, most of the of job is already done. This also made me learn TAM,SAM ans SOM : ) -Lower the number of Steps, higher the chances of conversion, Slice's effort to reduction of documentation was amazing -Think Legal, Many of the feature need legal approval need to check if possible or not before building -Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Referral, Revenue, This model is so great to learn by putting different things hats -Do not only create great campaigns by also time them properly smallcase nailed it Special Thanks to Jatin Nagpal(Team Slice) for introducing me to demo day. The energy was at its peak throughout for the 1000+ attendees for a runtime of 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒖 𝑨𝒓𝒋𝒖𝒏'𝒔 𝑷𝒖𝒔𝒉𝒑𝒂. (Now that's a perfect Sunday) 𝘔𝘺 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴: + 𝐀𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬:  Storytelling is an underrated art. I say this particularly for the teams that get to present towards the end. When the chances of attention spans declining can be high, but it is sheer strength of storytelling that can keep you engaged. Got to witness that LIVE in the form of Jayesh Bhatia (Impeccable connect with the audience) who did a great presentation on Ditto Insurance. + 𝐀 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲: I'm not a big fan of frameworks - they are good from a reference standpoint. But I like to chase clarity inside my mind (Somewhere most frameworks are derivatives of the first principles thinking). What I liked the most in all of the 3 Demos was the clarity when it comes to re-iterating the problem statement. That's critical & would like to maintain that practice (from a Bayes Theorem lens) + 𝐀 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: What I know about growth is just 1% (I like to be kind to myself). The ground reality of the messy middles is extremely unglamorous (yet the most significant) as opposed to the Brag-worthy titles people hold. I'm more in love with the continuous process of building now. Now there are people for whom perfect weekend is translating free time to acquiring a new skill or probably brush up existing one. #productiveday So elaborating to the #TAM of this post, folks, there is a community of people like you. :) I happen to have spent few of my Sundays following #growthXDemoDay and observing people going gaga solving for #growth and coming up with solutions hypothesis, showing crazy level of research with shit load of creativity. I think such auspicious activity can only happen on a #growthXDemoDay We say a #productmanager solves a gazillion number of problems but if you look at macro level, if you are anybody.. a #founder, #marketeer, #CXO or a #PM, the only problem you are looking to solve is #growth, how to grow, get hold of existing situation and achieve better results. I was baffled to see these astonishing minds from GrowthX #community to put in such work, detailing a plausible solution for growth, a real world problem, by putting in effort of just 3 weeks in this capstone project, which everyone, day in and day out looks out to achieve in their daily work hours. What an insightful way to spend Sunday! 😎 Attended the #GrowthXDemoDay today, and I was hooked to it for three hours straight. The session was a gold mine of insights and strategies related to product growth, marketing, customer retention, acquisition, and monetization. Gained a new perspective on growth, which as rightly mentioned, can get applied on a Monday morning! 📈  Highly inspired by the depth, clarity, vision, and structure of the pitch decks. Some key takeaways which I got curious about and wish to apply at work:  ✨Different ways to structure an ideal customer profile (ICP). There's no one proven method to determine your ICP. It depends on what you're selling and who you're selling.  ✨Better looking landing pages and improvements in CTA are crucial to market 10x better.  ✨It's vital to create the first bit of magic for the target audience. Either through product innovation, personalization techniques, or creative promotional strategies.   I was introduced to GrowthX by Sanath Kumar, CEO Smitch, and it couldn't have been any better. The growth strategies presented by each team - RazorpayX, Meesho, Simpl, CoinDCX (unofficial showcase) were excellent. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 💹 - 𝟭) User onboarding is a crucial component. Your customer will either adore your product or stop using it at this point. Best user onboarding dramatically raises retention rates and even lowers CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost). 𝟮) Recognize the needs and pain points of your customers, and try to address them without delay. 𝟯) Consider TAM (total addressable market), SAM (service available market), SOM (serviceable obtainable market) carefully by applying all the filters possible (mainly in a country like India). This helps in properly assessing the product market fit with realistic numbers. 𝟰) Educate customers about your product. This improves the customer engagement. 𝟱) Conviction is important. You cannot do everything. So you must prioritize things based on your capability and current market requirements. 𝟲) Do not underestimate referral programs. Referrals can accelerate your customer acquisition process. So, incentivise as much as you can. ----------------- The Meesho team created a growth strategy to increase from the existing 500M orders to 1B+ orders. The RazorpayX team built a plan to grow current account holders (from 5k to 50k). Simpl team made a simple strategy to boost MAUs from 5M to 15M. Additionally, CoinCDX developed a strategy to go from 5M to 15M active users. From product knowledge and market sizing to user acquisition, onboarding, retention, and monetization, every pitch was a solid growth model. Watching RRR in the theatre on a Sunday afternoon is good but attending GrowthX demo day Better hai. Attending a 3 hour-long presentation on the probable growth path of the 3 fast-growing startups may seem the most boring thing to do on a Sunday afternoon but believe me, once you're in, these 3 hours will dissolve within 15 minutes. Although the products, strategies, processes, and people were different for all the 3 presentations, I could see a pattern in each of them. Here's what - 👉 Storytelling - Each of the presenters was a storyteller. Be it Shashank Gupta from team slice or Soumitra Choubey from team smallcase or Varun Francis from team Koo India. They knew the trick to hold the attention of the audience. 👉 User Persona - Defining your user persona is one of the most important but toughest tasks for an early-stage company and man, cannot tell how smoothly while staying relevant each team defined the user persona by taking real-life references like Rancho, Jeetu Bhaiya, making an instant connect with the audience. 👉 Customer Research - Designing a growth path with your learnings and intelligence is one thing, works rarely but designing a growth path by talking to stakeholders (Founders, Employees, and Users/Customers) is something that always yields results and this is something I love most about GrowthX, they make their teams work on the ground. I've myself seen 100+ posts in the last 3-4 months GrowthX folks searching for users of a certain brand to talk about for their user research. 👉 Growth Path backed with the detailed roadmap - Solutions for every problem are available in access but very few of them are viable. What made me happier as an audience is that each of the 3 teams presented a viable and simplified solution with zero usage of jargon and complex excel sheets, for their respective startup to act on immediately. Be it Acquiring, Onboarding, or Retaining, each step was backed with a detailed & defined set of activities. 👉 Summary - May seem insignificant to many but believe me it's as crucial as all other points in this post. While sitting through a presentation for 30 minutes and getting bombarded with multiple interesting concepts each equally important, chances of leaking a few crucial points are greater and that's where a summary acts as a savior and keeps you aligned with all the steps taken to help product achieve pre-defined goals. To be honest, this post is just a glimpse of the magic show GrowthX folks organized, and to get a real experience, you'll have to attend it. Imagine the most exhilarating movie that you have ever seen. Now, 10X it! That's GrowthX Demo Day for you. It is an experience that will make you want to go out and change the world on a sunny Sunday afternoon.   Now, before I dive into my takeaways from what I experienced yesterday, I would like to thank the GrowthX team for letting me peek into the incredible work happening at GrowthX.   The people at Pixar have a simple philosophy, "Tell a story". Stories have an intrinsic power to take you on a journey. And that's what yesterday's Demo Day was about; the teams took us on a journey from insight to impact.   Team Slice demonstrated the value (8.5X growth) a simplified user onboarding journey could create, among other things like scaling up the referral program, introducing relevant product integrations etc.   My most significant insight from them was about structure. Their growth equation as a function of acquisitions, onboarding, and engagement was perfect. They had a simple strategy - fix each element, and you will get your increase in users. Voila! Moreover, optimizing the onboarding journey idea made logical sense because of this structure. And because they could define everything from the start, it was such a breezy pitch.   It is safe to say that team Smallcase hit the nail on the head yesterday. But, the real question is why? I could not get this out of my head until I took a step back and realized that the answer was right there. They didn't just propose solutions; they offered solutions for their users. Each slide was user-centric. Their 2.5X growth model seemed pragmatic because their proposed growth strategy seemed practical from Jeetu's and Suchi's perspectives.   And that's my biggest takeaway from them, perspectives. It doesn't matter how good the idea is; it is useless if it doesn't make sense for the user. By understanding user perspectives, the team understood the relevance of festivals like Diwali & New Year's eve and their influence on the consumers' investing behaviour. Once they figured that out, they grasped the most critical element: time. Their redefined model that kick-started building in March and the ability to present ideas from users' POV were the hidden jewels.   I consider myself to be a curious person. But once I saw team Koo's total addressable market size, it was an eye-opening and somewhat humbling experience. Koo's 20-25 minutes were just a rollercoaster of these emotions. Hence, my most critical takeaway from them was in terms of curiosity. They helped me expand my definition of the term itself. The sheer radicality of some of their ideas was fantastic. For instance, I never thought they would talk about monetization, but they did; it made sense even though it was brief. And I think that's how ideas become a reality. Yesterday was my first ever Growthx Demoday. I signed up out of curiosity, with no clue to what to expect but in the end, I did learn a lot. Sometimes, looking at problems from different perspective is important, simple solutions can solve mightier problems, and it could be right in front of our eyes. My Takeaways: If your presentation is a killer, its half war won (loved all 3 presentations, how storytelling and not too many numbers wala presentations make's your audience love you even more!) Setting realistic and achievable goals. How focusing on every aspect of consumer journey is the key, how well we know our "Rocket Singh/ Suchi" could eventually make or break a product. Approach towards a problem and how refining and redefining pressure points, across all processes would help in giving a fresh take towards a business. If I have to sum up my Demoday experience then probably, I would get a slice card, invest in smallcase and promote them on Koo India. Skipped on Sunday snoozes with GrowthX demo day and I have just about zero regrets. My very first #GrowthXdemoday got me 3 very different presentations from team Slice, smallcase and Koo India. What did they all have in common? Engagement and storytelling that was so gripping that it's bound to get attention of 1300+ people LIVE. Growth strategies around slice presented by Shashank Gupta, smallcase presented by Soumitra Choubey and Koo India presented by Varun Francis all 3 presentations were outstanding. Insightful feedback given by all the panelists like: Vedanarayanan Vedantham, Shivangi Srivastava, Gunjan Pradhan & Adarssh Mnpuria making me take multiple pages of notes during today's session, it was super enlightening. Today during the seminar Abhishek Patil said "Prior to GrowthX there wasn't any other community on a similar scale and energy around Product Marketing and Growth in India, talking about. Indian case studies and use-cases." and I absolutely second that, I wish I was aware of the group earlier but never too late to learn and explore. An absolutely wonderful initiative by Abhishek & Udayan and the entire GrowthX Team Kriti Gupta, Manish Karjol Bhavya Narula which has worked out beautiful enriching all our minds.

Well, I spent 3 hours of my Sunday watching balls being hit out of the park and stories being spun!👇🏻 I attended my first GrowthX Demo day yesterday, and I regret not attending it earlier. The three hours were a masterclass not only on Growth strategies but teamwork, storytelling, and time management. My key takeaways- 👉Understanding and clarity of the target persona is most important in defining a growth strategy. You need to meet your personas at the right moment with the right message.🤩 👉While acquisition is important, onboarding and retention bets are equally important too. Seamless and transparent onboarding goes a long way. 👉Building meaningful partnerships in the ecosystem and content sharing loops in the product can dramatically reduce spending on inorganic channels.🤑 👉All the three teams, #teamSlice #teamSmallcase #teamKoo came up with a year-long strategy in just about 3 weeks!🤯 The detailing and number crunching behind the scenes was immense but they demonstrated a masterclass in presentation. It's been 6 years since I completed my MBA from one of the good B-Schools in India. In that timespan, I have donned many hats in various roles in India and abroad, and have seen tons of pitches filled with ideas, strategies and growth plans for businesses. I was confident I knew enough to make a dent to every other topic for any kind of business problem. Until, I attended GrowthX Demo Day yesterday. Now, I am, in equal parts, awe-struck, scared and excited. 14 teams, 5 shortlists, 3 pitches and 1 winner. Honestly put, I had goosebumps seeing the the width of ideas and depth of thought to each of those ideas. You name it and they had it, and then some. Customer profiles, acquisition channels, onboarding flows, product wireframes, creative animations, brand codes, financial models, content loops, campaign timelines and what not. It wasn't whims or fancy. All the pitches were stitched together with some solid, airtight research. The folks had spoken with prospective and existing customers, read reviews, interacted company personnel and even their founders and investors. Those were some practical, achievable solutions they presented. It's remarkable, to say the least, that how could 8-10 folks, meeting each other for the first time, could do all of that in 3 weeks, while having full-time jobs. Folks who presented smallcase, Koo India and slice, you simply bowled me over with the clarity of thought and practicality of your solutions. I have to admit that I am rather scared knowing the level of play out there. It was unlike anything I had even seen before. The good part is that I have gotten into the upcoming cohort of GrowthX and I can't keep calm. Super excited and pumped to take this difficult journey, which I am sure will lead to beautiful destinations. I strongly recommend GrowthX to anyone and everyone! Go and have a look at what they do.
