Pareto is a nifty app that helped my Mac to stay safe and healthy. It’s a must-have!

I came across Pareto Security when researching best practices for tightening MacOS security. I am a home user (not a business) but I am interested in cyber and information security, and like to do everything I can to keep my systems secure. Originally, I used Pareto's online checklist to guide me in adjusting my settings. However, I eventually purchased the product, with the dual purpose of making the tasks more convenient for me, and supporting the developer. Pareto Security has helped me in adjusting settings on my Mac which I wouldn't previously have considered. For instance, I don't need to have the Airplay Receiver enabled, so it should be turned off. I was particularly pleased with the explanation of switching to a standard user account, as opposed to an admin. Namely, it involves creating a second admin account, logging into it, and demoting your existing user account to a standard user. This simply hadn't occurred to me; I'd assumed that the process would involve renaming or moving user home folders, signing back into iCloud etc. My favourite thing about Pareto Security is that it sits in my MenuBar, and I can check it whenever I like. I would recommend it for anyone who fancies adjusting their mac to be somewhat more secure, and wants an occasional sanity check to that end.

I'm a consultant in industrial networking and working with sensitive customers and projects. Pareto is a very nice tool to make sure that no security feature is forgotten to be applied amongst the most important one. the Green LED on the icon is telling all my settings are OK. And If I ever need to change one setting (disable the firewall...) Pareto will be telling this to me using its orange LED. Moreover I set my menu bar manager to display Pareto icon only if it is not all OK. I wish more security features will be implemented later (and not stopping at 20% of the features participating to 80% of the security). Good tool that I recommend.

Kinde is a young startup with a full remote team. We knew we needed a way to keep on top of regular security patches and secure best practices for our MacBooks, but we also found that MDM tools cause as many problems as they solve. We could quickly report on the patch status of our company laptops and automate reminders to fix any settings that were not aligned with the secure baseline. Security is important and there is no arguing that. It’s seeming even more important with remote work and co-working spaces. We need an easy way to make sure our machines (and our co-workers machines) are secure as they can be. Luckily, we have Pareto to help us! Pareto is the most low-effort way to make sure your machine is secure and I love it 🥰 It warned me of some system settings I had turned off or misconfigured and some important apps that were outdated. Within minutes I was all good! 🙂

Everything works well for me, on Mac ARM. I really appreciate the fact of being perfectly guided on the different actions to be corrected. Awesome 👍 

I’m on a M1 Mac Mini and generally run with Little Snitch and a VPN so I’m not too worried, but I thought it would be an interesting investment. A lot of oranges! So it allowed me to easily see what was open. I closed them all. It’s now green. A really useful little app.

Pareto was easy to install and follow the directions on how to secure your Mac. The software does not slow my computer down, but monitors for changes in settings. Works well with my other anti-virus to provide a safe and secure Mac.

Pareto Security gives me a lot more confidence in my work and personal machines. It’s one of the first things I install on a new MacBook. A must-have. What’s great about it is that it’s not about selling a security solution, it points out obvious and less obvious settings so you can make sure to have the best configuration, not only to protect from intrusion attempts over the internet but also from someone getting his hand on the computer.

I am a 73 year old mac user, and pretty paranoid about keeping my internet access clear of malware etc. I came across Pareto recently and decided to give it a go. Very easy to install and it quickly advised me where my security could be better. Links to website pages explaining things were very useful. Frankly, once you have set things up and been awarded all green ticks there is nothing left to do while it runs in the background. It wasnt that expensive and hopefully more features will be added in the future.
